The leather used for the boots is Hawthorne Abilene, a beige roughout leather primarily used in the U.S for Western and outdoor boots, such as Pecos boots. Unlike most suede leathers, which are made by thinly slicing the brushed side of the leather, roughout leather uses the grain (the highest fiber density) on the inside and the brushed side on the outside, meaning the leather is turned inside out. Originally intended for outdoor footwear, this leather develops a rich patina with age, even as it acquires dirt and other imperfections.
